The applications of mixed models for animal breeding have motivated several of the developments in mixed model estimation.
In animal breeding, the estimation of genetic parameters is synonymous with the estimation of variance components.
Variance components was estimated by the Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML) procedure, using the ASreml.
